Hamburg, 18 December 2014 – The Hamburg-based ship-owning and ship management company E.R. Schiffahrt has established a new subsidiary: BestShip GmbH & Cie. KG. BestShip provides comprehensive consultancy services on energy-efficient ship operation to shipowners, shipping companies and ship managers. The new company takes a holistic approach to improving a ship’s operational efficiency, providing bespoke solutions and systems. Apart from analytics and development, BestShip’s range of services includes the design work for refits, and project management to implement them. Solutions include redesigned bulbous bows, energy-efficient propellers, and main engine modifications. In addition, BestShip offers strategies for increasing cargo capacity, as well as training concepts for crews.
At times of shrinking revenues, cost transparency is a concern of growing importance. “Full fuel tanks are like floating safes: They contain assets worth millions. We show our customers how to manage these assets in an optimal and responsible manner to save fuel costs and reduce CO2 emissions”, says Helge Bartels, Managing Director of BestShip.
The company’s new “FuelSafe” system not only delivers analytical data but is also indispensable for successful monitoring: It checks the ship’s operation continuously, gathering data on energy output, fuel consumption and sailing conditions on a day-by-day basis. Its reporting features reveal where steps may be taken to increase efficiency, giving the crew specific recommendations for performance improvement. “Together with our partners we have developed a system that is unique within this industry. It enables automated acquisition and smart correlation of data. Apart from our holistic approach to performance optimization, this is an achievement that puts us ahead of our competitors”, explains Jürgen Kudritzki, likewise a Managing Director at BestShip.
At E.R. Schiffahrt, Helge Bartels is Director Technical Fleet Management while Jürgen Kudritzki is Technical Director. Both gentlemen form the management board of BestShip GmbH & Cie. KG, a subsidiary of E.R. Schiffahrt.
