Top 10 Emerging Trends

Each week we provide 10 stats about Dry Cargo Trade to keep you informed about important trends:

1) Dry cargoes loading out of Australia have grown approximately 12% per annum since 2012.
2) The Indian sub-continent has seen double digit dry cargo demand growth since 2011. In 2014 the region is estimated to receive 335 million tonnes.
3) Dry cargoes loading from South America have grown 2% in 2013 and 2014 and stand at approximately700k tonnes.
4) Wheat cargoes will have risen approximately 8% in 2014 to approximately 180 million tonnes.
5) Maize (corn) has seen good growth with a 9% rise in 2014 to 133 million tonnes.
6) The sugar trade has remained flat at approximately 59 million tonnes in 2014.
7) Dry cargoes into Japan fell 1% to 270 million tonnes. Cargoes from Australia and Brazil fell 2% and 8% respectively.
8) Cargoes into South Korea grew 7% last year to approximately 275 million tonnes.
9) Steel tube cargoes are estimated to have grown 8% last year to 48 million tonnes.
10) Barley cargoes have fallen by an estimated 10% in 2014 to 28 million tonnes.
