PARSIPPANY, N.J., 7 May, 2015 – DuPont Sustainable Solutions, through its subsidiary Belco Technologies Corporation (BELCO), has been awarded a contract to supply DuPontTM Marine Scrubber systems to two vessels owned by Condor Ferries, a Guernsey-based company that operates year-round freight, car and passenger ferries between the Channel Islands, United Kingdom and France.

DuPont will provide four single-stream open loop gas cleaning units for the good vessels Commodore Clipper and Commodore Goodwill. BELCO specializes in reliable air pollution control systems to meet clean air regulations with minimal maintenance and operational requirements.

Exhaust gas cleaning systems will allow the ferries to meet all IMO Annex VI sulphur requirements while continuing to operate on heavy fuel oil. The vessels are similarly sized, each featuring two main engines rated at approximately 4.5 MW. Each main engine will have a dedicated exhaust gas cleaning unit. The systems are scheduled to be installed for fall 2015 and performance testing is scheduled for early 2016.

“This is a very important project for Condor Ferries, and following the purchase of Condor Liberation, represents a second multi-million-pound investment in the Channel Islands’ sea transport links by Condor Ferries within 12 months, ” said Captain Frances Collins, executive director, Operations, Condor Ferries. “By fitting Commodore Clipper and Commodore Goodwill with these scrubbers, we will minimize sulphur oxide and particulate emissions whilst keeping prices as low as possible for freight transport to and from the islands.”

This contract represents collaboration between several parties. Oceanox Ltd. will be managing the project with Houlder Ltd. as naval architect. “The DuPontTM Marine Scrubber system suits passenger vessels well because of its slim design, ” said Nick Holness, managing director, Oceanox Ltd.
