GAC 01072014Lock chamber back in service

The New Big North Lock Chamber at Brunsbuettel in the Kiel Canal is back in service. Depending on traffic, no further delays expected.

Further, the Kiel Canal Authority has announced that, due to inspection works, the New Big South Lock Chamber will be out of service from 18 May. The expected duration of the closure is unknown at this stage.

Installation of fender system
May 14, 2015, Hong Kong, Hong Kong

For approximately one month, marine works involving installation of fender system and associated works will be carried out [at Kwai Tsing Container Terminal No.5, Tsing Yi Bridge and Cheung Tsing Bridge] within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (F):

(A) 22 deg. 21.003’N / 114 deg. 06.875’E

(B) 22 deg. 20.948’N / 114 deg. 06.893’E

(C) 22 deg. 20.949’N / 114 deg. 06.900’E

(D) 22 deg. 20.945’N / 114 deg. 06.902’E

(E) 22 deg. 20.940’N / 114 deg. 06.883’E

(F) 22 deg. 20.999’N / 114 deg. 06.863’E

The works will be carried out by one work boat. One guard boat will provide assistance.

A working area of approximately 25 metres around the work boat will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the work boat.

The hours of work will be from 0800 to 1800 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and Public Holidays. Vessels employed for the works will not stay in the works area outside the hours of work.

Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

Installation of temporary floating boom

For approximately 2 weeks, marine works involving installation of one floating boom will be carried out [in Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter] within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shoreline:

(A) 22 deg. 17.057’N / 114 deg. 13.492’E

(B) 22 deg. 17.058’N / 114 deg. 13.494’E

(C) 22 deg. 17.053’N / 114 deg. 13.499’E

(D) 22 deg. 17.052’N / 114 deg. 13.498’E

An orange floating boom will be installed near the rainwater drainage outlets in Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter with two ends of the boom fixed on the vertical seawall for approximately 12 months. No working boat will be engaged in the works.

The purpose of the floating boom is to intercept general floating refuse thereat, and the boom comprises a 6 metres long polystyrene float with silt curtain extending 3 metres vertically downwards from the sea surface.

The hours of work will be from 0900 to 1800 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

River obstructed by grounded vessel
May 14, 2015, Argentina, Parana River

The navigation channel at km 287 of the Parana River is obstructed after a bulk vessel went aground on the right margin during the early hours of 13 May during her navigation to San Nicolas.

The Coast Guard has allowed navigation for vessels with max draft of 7.40m only through the secondary channel.
