The British Ambassador John Kittmer
The third Greek-British shipping forum was organised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) Athens in cooperation with Maritime London. The half-day conference took place at the Ambassador’s Residence on 9 June 2015.
Over 100 delegates took part in the forum which was attended by:
- shipowners
- top level management and important decision makers from the most prominent shipping companies
8 UK companies took part in the event presenting their expertise on:
- ship financing
- cyber crime
- maritime education
- maritime arbitration
- current challenges, trends and opportunities
Greek shipping sector
The Greek shipping sector is a vibrant and dynamic sector. It offers significant opportunities for UK companies dealing inmaritime services, such as:
- banking
- legal
- insurance
- chartering
- brokerage
Forum
The Forum was opened by the British Ambassador John Kittmer and the Greek Minister for Shipping Theodore Dritsas.
In his opening speech, the Ambassador said,
The competitiveness of the EU fleet remains a top priority for governments and maritime organisations alike; it is important that we all work in partnership and within the context of the IMO to address the current challenges of the industry, while further enhancing the competitiveness of EU shipping.
Alderman Lord Mountevans, the next Lord Mayor of the City of London and Ian Woodman, Director of Maritime Directorate at the Department for Transport, travelled to Greece specifically for the occasion. They spoke on the Maritime Growth Study and exchanged views with the Greek shipping community.
