Oceanology International 2016– Conference call for papers deadline approaches
The countdown is on for submissions to the call for abstracts for Oceanology International 2016 (ExCeL, London, 15-17 March 2016), the world’s largest marine technology and ocean science exhibition and conference. The deadline for 300-word abstracts for the eleven conference streams is Friday 28 August 2015.
As Conference Chairman, Professor Ralph Rayner explains: “Oceanology International is a unique event. No other exhibition and conference connects the manufacturers and users of ocean technology with such a diverse spectrum of scientific and industrial stakeholders.
“Since its inception in 1969, Oceanology International has continually evolved. It has done so in order to best connect a growing array and complexity of scientific and technical capability with an ever-changing and developing range of uses and users, who derive safety, economic and environmental benefits from the capabilities that ocean science and technology delivers. Oceanology International 2016 will be no exception to meeting the changing needs and interests of the community that it serves.
“As well as the regular conference strands on unmanned vehicles and vessels; ocean observing systems; positioning and metrology; hydrography; geophysics and geotechnics; marine renewables, which has played a role for several events now; and aquaculture, which made its appearance for the first time at the last show in 2014, there will be some new topics and features.”
New topics under the conference spotlight
“We’re excited about the new topics, ” explains Event Director Jonathan Heastie of Reed Exhibitions. “There are always conference streams at Oceanology International that look at topical issues in the offshore oil and gas sectors, at next year’s show a duo of topics seriously acknowledge falling energy prices, with one exploring issues associated with removal, life extension or reuse of offshore assets; and the second, the contribution of monitoring of structures to risk reduction and improved reliability.
“‘Handling Big Data’ and ‘Green Shipping’ also make their inaugural appearances at Oceanology International 2016. Another ‘new entrant’ is ‘Near and Far Markets’, an ‘international trading’ session for attending organisations who are looking to build their export potential. This will involve Trade Commissions and Regional Trade & Industry groups – the ideal session for a truly international event that in 2014 boasted attendance of 8, 400 from 82 countries. Exhibition shaping up well

”Naturally, vessels and dock side demonstrations of equipment will once again be a popular feature and, as at all Oceanology International events, networking will play an important role.”
