ESPO reveals new Top 10 Environmental Priorities of Ports
On 23 March, ESPO released the results of its recent environmental review 2016 during the PORTOPIA conference in Lisbon. The aim of the review is to update the top 10 environmental priorities of European ports and to produce further benchmark figures in key areas of port environmental management.

Port Regulation: Parliament vote brings ports one step closer to autonomy
Yesterday, the European Parliament voted on the Port Regulation and the Fleckenstein Report. The European Parliament confirmed the outcome of the Transport committee. 451 MEPs voted in favour of the deal reached by the rapporteur and the shadow rapporteurs. 234 MEPs voted against, while 18 MEPs abstained. An even larger majority voted in favour of giving the rapporteur the mandate to start negotiations with the council in view of reaching a first reading agreement.

Port Regulation: ESPO believes Fleckenstein-report is a good basis for starting negotiations with the council
Today and tomorrow, the European Parliament, gathering in Strasbourg for the March plenary session, will debate and vote on the report of Mr Knut Fleckenstein (A8-0023/2016) regarding the Proposal for a Regulation establishing a framework on market access to port services and financial transparency of ports.

How is your port working with nature? Submit your project for the ESPO award 2016!
The theme for the 8th ESPO Award on Societal Integration of Ports is “Nature in Ports”. In general, European ports are part of very valuable ecosystems, both on the land and waterside. Many port areas are also neighbouring Natura 2000 areas or even consist of Natura 2000 areas. Port authorities in Europe invest a lot of time and efforts in maintaining and improving the quality of the nature in the port.
