The 19th annual meeting of the Hellenic and Black Sea Committee of Bureau Veritas was held on the 13th of May 2016.
This year the Committee event took place at the Grand Resort Lagonissi in Athens.
Chaired by George Procopiou and in the presence of the Bureau Veritas Top Management, namely Philippe Donche-Gay, President Marine & Offshore Division, Didier Bouttier, Senior Vice President Marine & Offshore Division SEMEA Zone, Lambros A. Chahalis, Vice President Regional Chief Executive Hellenic & Black Sea Region, Dr. John Kokarakis, Technology & Business Development Director Marine & Offshore Division, Anastasios Angelopoulos, Marine Chief Executive, Paillette Palaiologou, Director Marine Sales & Marketing Marine & Offshore Division, Philippe Boisson, Communication Director, Nicos Attas, Marine Chief Executive of Cyprus, Michael Sterghiou, Director SE Europe Bureau Veritas Commodities, Yordan Minkov, Marine Manager BV Varna, and George Andreadis, Marine Center Manager, the meeting was a great success.

Following the welcome and adoption of the agenda by the Committee’s Chairman, Mr. George Procopiou, three distinguished colleagues of shipping were accepted as new members. They were Michael Bodouroglou, Chairman of Allseas Marine, Dimitris Patrikios, General Manager of Springfield Shipping Co. and Svetlin Stoyanov, Executive Director of MTG-Dolphin PLC in Bulgaria.
Philippe Donche-Gay opened the round of presentations with a critical review on the Bureau Veritas Group’s Corporate Activities & Results for 2015 & on the strategic plan 2015-2020. Mr. Donche-Gay pointed out also the importance of the Digital Transformation which will further assist the job of surveyors on board the vessel.
He was followed by a presentation on Shipping & Shipbuilding markets for 2016 by Nicos Ritsos, Managing Partner of BRS, resulting to an interesting exchange of views.

The presentation by Dr. John Kokarakis, Technology & Business Development Director, focused on the specific aspects of the utilization of LNG as fuel for non-LNG carriers. Many aspects like storage tank type and location, machinery arrangements, safety requirements and types of gas or dual fuel engines were discussed in detail. It was underlined that BV has earned a prominent position with high market share amongst class societies.
The meeting was concluded with the traditional heated discussion on the issues by the members and the social time during the lunch in the beautiful resort.
