SingPost – Singapore Youth Festival 50th Anniversary stamp series

SINGAPORE,  30 June 2016 – Singapore Post Limited (SingPost), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, will release a Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 50th Anniversary Commemorative Stamp Series on 1 July 2016. The stamp series themed YOUTHforia! comprises five designs that symbolise the dynamism and energy of youths and their artistic pursuits in the arts, dance, drama and music.

Celebrating its 50th year with the theme YOUTHforia!, the annual SYF remains one of the most important platforms that celebrates the rich diversity of youth talent in schools in Singapore. Beginning in 1966 and officially launched on 18 July 1967 by the first President of Singapore Yusof Ishak, SYF was a festival that involved 24, 000 students from primary and secondary schools in a two-week celebration. It has metamorphosed into an annual kaleidoscopic showcase of talents involving more than 40, 000 students in the month of July.

SYF 2016 seeks to offer more opportunities for youths in Singapore beyond various backstage and off-stage performances, and provides them with rich, authentic opportunities for learning and growth.

SingPost’s previous SYF stamp issue was in 1976 to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the SYF. That stamp set featured the essence of three popular youth activities – Inter-School Band, Track & Field, and Music & Dance.

There is also a Pre-cancelled First Day Cover at S$4.10 that comes affixed with the complete set of stamps. This stamp issue will go on sale from 1 July 2016 at all post offices and the Singapore Philatelic Museum. They may also be purchased online atwww.stampdelight.com.
