Hurricane Season preparedness

In preparation for the hurricane season, the Captain of the Port (COTP) New York has recommended actions to ensure that the New York and New Jersey maritime communities are prepared in the event of hurricane conditions affecting the area.These actions include:

  • Review the Coast Guard COTP New York’s Hurricane and Severe Weather Plan, downloadable athttp://homeport.uscg.mil/newyork > Waterways Management.
  • Conduct training with vessel/facility personnel to ensure awareness of potential risks and responsibilities associated with hurricanes.
  • All efforts to be made prior to an approaching storm to secure and remove any potential pollutants.
  • Observe the Standard Severe Weather Practices for the COPTP New York Zone, applicable all year round. The COTP may, at his discretion, impose additional restrictions based on actual or predicted conditions.

Channel closed due to sunken shrimp boat

The Sabine Rover Pilot Office advise that the US Coast Guard has closed the channel at Port Arthur due to a sunken shrimp boat.The pilots are currently unable to advise when the channel may reopen.For information about operations in the USA contact GAC USA at usa@gac.com

Lock closure for maintenance works
