Ten years of catastrophe risk management developments will be reviewed at an International Underwriting Association seminar. Over the last decade the London Market body has hosted an annual meeting looking at how risk modelling techniques can be applied across a range of underwriting disciplines.
In 2016 a tenth anniversary event will look back at how the field has developed and consider what catastrophe modelling will look like ten years from now.
“When we first held a catastrophe risk management event in 2006, it was a fairly novel concept,” commented Dave Matcham, chief executive of the IUA. “The London Market’s modelling community was relatively small and dedicated events were not common.
“Now many IUA members have quite extensive in-house modelling teams, the use of such techniques is widespread and models themselves are ever more sophisticated. Our annual seminar is as popular as ever and has covered everything from flood to solar risks by way of climate change and cyber security.”
The 2016 Catastrophe Risk Management Seminar takes place on Tuesday 4 October at the America Square Conference Centre. A special guest speaker will be Lewis Pugh, United Nations Patron of the Oceans. An endurance swimmer he has pioneered swims in the most challenging environments on earth, including the Antarctic, the North Pole and the Himalayas.
Also on the agenda will be a look at business interruption losses in recent global catastrophes and a panel discussion comparing models from the industry’s major service companies. Frank Nutter, President of the Reinsurance Association of America is a keynote speaker.
