John Faraclas
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) was down 18 points since yesterday and now stands at 912 points disappointing those news makers expecting same will go over and above the 1,000 point threshold; Geopolitics too join-in the mess. John Faraclas’ daily briefing:
The Capers’ BCI 2014 lost 102 points since yesterday and now stands at 2,196 points. Is it a correction, a normal fall or still a volatile and uncertain sector which might cause further chaos?
The Panamaxes clinched just one point with the BPI now reading 751; a more stable size!
The Supras BSI gained two points and now stands at 676 points…
and the Handies BHSI stranded at 422 points give you the real picture of the dry market. CAUTION!
The Wets once again with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 638 (up 20) and 375 (down four) respectively. Still on CAUTION!
The price of WTI on this early reporting stands at US$ 45.15… strange but true…
On the Geopolitical front now things continue as messy as ever:
The MIGRANTS issue become more serious than ever before and the latest with Jean -Claude Juncker’s view that proportionality on a permanent migrants planning has ended makes it worse. the Syrian saga follows suit with despicable developments.
It is now claimed that the MH17 flight was hit by a missile brought in from Russia in eastern Ukraine during the 2014 incident; we shall see… as politics play an ultra-hypo game… It is in my view a both to blame collision as we say in shipping and you dead well know what I mean. Pity for all those on board.
Greece enters the most dangerous point of its history; CAUTION!
The Clinton vs. Trump confrontation continues; Mrs. Clinton is ahead. The big Q is what is her / his plan and vision for the US and Planet Ocean…. 84 million viewers watched the TV debate; what a record. Let’s see the winner’s record after the end of their term…
Boris Johnson’s demand for a “jumbo” Turkish trade deal will jeopardise relations in the region… UK’s FCO must watch what he says and how he turns things he said and wrote in the past; Greeks and the world at large do have a memory… BREXIT is one thing, for which we agree that under the circumstances must happen, but damaging old standing relations is yet another. By the way, the Turkish Airforce violated 41 times Greece’s and Europe’s airspace only yesterday…
China on CAUTION too. Imagine the financial collapse there… China is already in a problematic state; Japan cautiously watches the developments there…
German Banks send alerts on possible defaults…
Next door in South Korea, Hanjin’s problems continues affecting local and international entities… Meantime don’t ask what’s up in North Korea... Another mess…
That’s all for now and be on guard for every eventuality, particularly shipping and banking bankruptcies…not to mention looming wars in the background.
All eyes at Greenwich Maritime Museum were the Lloyd’s List Annual Global Awards are about to begin; will advise you as soon as we have the results. Good luck to all!
