Just before the cadets embarkation
Capt. Antonio M. Padrón y Santiago, “IMO Maritime Ambassador” and Maritime Authority of Tenerife, attended the embarkation of 30 Maritime Cadets in the ship “Volcán del Teide” of NAVIERA ARMAS
A total of 30 Maritime Cadets embarked in the vessel Volcán del Teide of NAVIERA ARMAS, in her passage from Tenerife to Huelva, in order to perform their first practices of navigation.
The activity is carried out in collaboration with NAVIERA ARMAS and the University of La Laguna (ULL).
In the event were present: Capt. Antonio M. Padrón, Maritime Ambassador of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and promoter of the “Boarding Program for Maritime Cadets”; Capt. Luis Méndez, Head of Security of NAVIERA ARMAS; Prof. Isidro Padrón, Director of the Department of Agricultural, Marine, Civil and Maritime Engineering of the ULL; Prof. Antonio Burgos, deputy Director of the Nautical School of Tenerife (ULL) and the 30 students who participate in this training initiative.
This is a pioneering real experience of navigation and coexistence on board for the 30 students which will be assisted on board by Prof. Antonio Poleo.
The professional practices are fundamental for the development of students in the final stage of their careers, helping them to know closely the environment in which their professional future will develop. In recent years, with the reduction of the merchant fleet in Spain, it has been more difficult to access practices on board Spanish ships.
This group of students will enjoy an enriching academic and professional experience that will combine classes on board with real life on a ship sailing from the Canary Islands to the Peninsula in just one day, at a speed of 26 knots.
NAVIERA ARMAS, the only shipping company that connects all the Islands of the Archipelago, has offered its collaboration to carry out on board the Nautical students, sponsoring this activity.
