It is always that we all go firstly for the Dry Markets and the BDI (Baltic Dry Index) and on …second thoughts we refer and advise you on the Wets… as main news on the Markets which are edging towards the bottom lately… Geopolitics are about to ignite, delivering more and more mess! John Faraclas’ daily briefing:
So the for a change, the Wets first: The last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) …ended up today at 618 and 536 points – three and five points down respectively. For over two years now the BDTI remains below the 1,000 point mark with the highest level in December 2016 when it stood at 919 points. The BCTI’s highest over the last two years was in March 2017 when it stood at 751 points. CAUTION…
The BDI was modestly up 14 points since yesterday and now reads 1,169…
The Capers were the “driving” force yet again with the BCI gaining 55 points plus since yesterday reaching 2,155…
The Panamaxes modestly up with 14 points and the BPI at 1,289…
The Supras’ BSI was up five points; now standing at 765…, and the
Handies’ BHSI lost another point dropping down to 464; a big Caution here.
All in all an upwards Dry Market, but nothing extraordinary… We are cautious despite what the news from the shipping analysts that the Markets will peak-up… regret, at best: not yet! One can only talk about this happening ONLY when the BDI surpasses the December 2013 level of 2,247 points; END OF THE STORY.-
The WTI recovered from an early fall at US$ 47,02 and now reads US$ 47.71 slightly better than yesterday but acceptable price/level for the poor masses!
On the Geopolitical front the same issues per yesterday remain more or less unchanged. MIGRANTS first and foremost; the Wars in Syria and Iraq against the ISIS; the Turkish mess; the Greek modern drama, BREXIT “depending” on a new trade deal with the EU – we shall see at the end of the day what happens; not to worry though…
All the attention goes to the forthcoming German elections and the policy the new administration will follow…
The crucial news remain the enigmatic tactics in the Far East over North Korea which in our view acts as proxy for China – again: end of the story… Halting an attack in Guam doesn’t mean anything… What about waking up one morning and see that there is an invasion from the North to take over Soul and all the South… A lesson for the Americans: do it while you can! Russia is closely monitoring all the happening… India too and given the 70th anniversary of the creation of India and Pakistan there might be an upheaval in the sub-continent as well as an Indian interference in the Chinese/North Korean – USA melee…
Africa gets in more mess… In Mali the UN’s peacekeeping HQ’s are being attacked…
On another note now; Congrats to the Coast Guard saving three men at Bude on a rock at Northcott, UK. Excellent manuevers from the helicopter’s pilot Graham Finn and co-pilot Capt Dave Crimmen and winchman Mark “Spike” Hughes who exceeded human heroism in saving all three from the battered by waves rock!
That’s all for tonight; more news tomorrow. We urge you to be on guard for every eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists…
