Volume Based Surcharge to increase

Tug operator Svitzer has announced that its Volume Based Surcharge introduced at Port Kembla in 2014 to cater for volume fluctuation will increase from the current 2.7% to 5% from 1 December 2017.

This follows a decrease in volumes form the last measurement point in April 2017 (3,797 tug jobs). The next review period will be for the 12 months ending 30 April 2018, with the new VBS to be introduced 1 June 2018.

VBS review

A recent review of the Volume Based Surcharge (VBS) at Westernpoint by tug operator Svitzer shows that the tug volume for the 12 months ending 31 July 2017 was 221 jobs. As a result, the VBS will rise from 24% to 30% from 23 November.

Repairs to dolphins in Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter

For approximately 2 months, fender and concrete repairing works for ten dolphins will be carried out in the Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter.

The works will be carried out by a crane boat. A working area of approximately 15 metres around the boat will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the boat.

The hours of work will be from 0700 to 1900 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays. The boat employed for the works will not stay in the works area outside the hours of work.

Diving operations will be carried out from time to time during the hours of work.

The boat engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and keep clear of the working area at slow speed, bearing in mind there are divers working in the area.

Dredging at Kwai Tsing Container Terminals 6 & 7

For approximately 4 months, dredging operations will be carried out within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (F) and the adjacent shoreline:
(A) 22 deg. 19.703’N / 114 deg. 07.603’E
(B) 22 deg. 19 .651’N / 114 deg. 07.621’E
(C) 22 deg. 19.635’N / 114 deg. 07.565’E
(D) 22 deg. 20.167’N / 114 deg. 07.384’E
(E) 22 deg. 20.183’N / 114 deg. 07.440’E
(F) 22 deg. 20.132’N / 114 deg. 07.457’EThe works will be carried out by a grab dredger. Three tugboats and three split hopper barges will assist in the works. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.A working area of approximately 50 metres around the grab dredger will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the grab dredger.

The hours of works will be round-the-clock.

Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.
