An upwards surge of the BDI but also a fall in the Wets…

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) ended up the day at 1,702 points bringing a ray (?) of hope but also controlled caution, as volatility is the name of the game given the messy geopolitics; the Wets on a falling modus… John Faraclas’ daily and weekly market briefing:

The BDI was up 23 points at 1,702 – a good level ensuring a possibly return after four years to the safe level of 2,000 points. On a weekly basis we witnessed 176 points plus – from last week’s 1,626 points and this is also encouraging, but… we reiterate our view that volatility is here to stay coupled with severe deterioration of all Geopolitical issues…

The Capes lead the way upwards with a rise of 46 points today with the BCI reading 4,193 points and on a weekly basis 168 points plus – from 4,025 of last Friday the 1st of December 2017!

The Panamaxes had a good day with the BPI gaining 24 points – now reading 1,588 and on a weekly basis a plus 94 points was more than welcomed – from 1,494…

On the antipode of the Capers and Panamaxes rise the Supras’ BSI lost one point now at 943 and also lost one point from last week’s 944  points; CAUTION…

Minimal rise for the Handies’ BHSI of just a point – now standing at 631 and a five points plus since last week’s 626… Still low…

All in all we are 545 points below the 2,247 points since the end of Dec 2013… will the BDI reach this level before the New Year? It could be a real challenge, but…

The Wets as said in the preamble were on the low and with  mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 823 – minus one and 679 – minus six points respectively. On a weekly basis the Dirties gained 1 point – from 806 and the Cleans lost 45 – from 634 respectively…

The WTI as these lines are being written reads US$ 57.30, still a dangerous level for the poor masses all over Planet Ocean – we repeat the fact that this price level might backfire in the worse possible way!

The Geopolitical front got far worse and it remains to be seen if people continue fixing the blame to somebody else rather to themselves for creating this despicable mess all over Planet Ocean, whilst nobody is fixing the problems we are subjected! Any objection? Eh!

The MIGRANTS still here to bother us; the Syrian and Iraqi …”sagas” about to end, but the counter attacks have to be met as the losers will go berserk… We must stop at all costs the ISIS fighters return to the European counties where they emanate from – there is a way to do it!!! Come on…

The Kurdish issue is about to erupt in an unprecedented way!

The second day of president Erdogan’s visit to Greece turned to a historic fiasco for both sides! Those who accept this man and back him must bear the blame for whatever happens. There wouldn’t be any excuse from NATO and the EU at all that one can accept.  The Treaty of Lausanne is the Treaty of Lausanne and he must respect same or else…Whatever he said are gross lies threatening Peace all over. A megalomaniac who must be stopped… He’s NATO’s traitor given his forthcoming order for the Russian made S-400 missiles, end of the story. We really wonder if he dares conclude this deal following president Putin’s forthcoming visit to Ankara this coming Monday… CAUTION!

Greece and its administration is closely watching the escalation of the Turkish provocations but must also give an end before the situation gets off hand… This applies for all political parties! In the meantime the country continues to be pestered by the EU and its current cronies, that is to say the Greek government of SYRIZA/ANEL! The opposition to is to be blamed too! We have warned all along that when the shit hits the fan, wonder were some people can find shelter both in Greece and in the EU!

The other major issue in the region – East Med, is the World’s reaction on Jerusalem becoming the capital of Israel. Hope USA’s president Trump has weighted the consequences… Already there is a worldwide condemnation. Time and actions will tell! Expect an Armageddon!

BREXIT looks likely to happen with a possible deal very soon, but don’t count your eggs before they are hatched…. Details and voting at the end of the day will count… Meantime, the weather gets worse and snowfall might cause severe problems and disruptions. Same applies for most of Europe…

North Korea continues to be a threat of Peace and the Pacific Basin counties might react with a stricter co-ordinated action…

In Africa, other issues, mainly political  – elections and ongoing financial and instability issues are going to bother us more and more…

On another tone, the American Club’s Centennial dinner in Athens’ Grand Bretagne was so far on all counts one of the best events of this century! Within a week, the Club’s  two events – London and Athens monopolise the shipping spectrum; excellent!

Coming up tomorrow in London the GIWA Awards at the London Library to honour successful Greek Women all over Planet Ocean! Many well-known Women, supporters and contributors of ALLABOUTSHIPPING are in the final!

Also, on Monday in New York, the 19th Annual Capital Link “Invest in Greece Forum” is expected to break attendance records…

On Tuesday and Wednesday in Athens ELINT’s annual conference takes place at the Evgenidion Foundation conference centre; an event not to be missed…

Have a nice evening as well as a nice weekend and be on guard for any eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists worldwide…
