The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) managed to gain six points – thanks mainly to the Panamaxes. The geopolitics are getting off hand. John Faraclas brief recap:
The Capes were down six points with the BCI reading 1,498; wonder when this volatility will end.
The Panamaxes were up 37 points with the BPI standing at 1,590 – good news…
The Supras managed a good six points with the BSI remaining steady above the 1,000 threshold at 1,026 points.
The Handies as expected went over and above the 600 point mark and at 607 feel safe… – plus eight points, not bad at all! All in all we are 1,050 points short from the end of December 2013 closing of 2,247 points!
The Wets are dangerously falling; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 648 and 590 – minus six respectively!
The WTI as these lines are being written stood at US$ 60.05 – the tendency is though upwards, a very dangerous movement; CAUTION as we want to see US$49.99 for the safety and well-being of Planet Ocean’s poor masses!
The Shipping Industry in general lucks funding and unless same is available expect the unexpected given that banks, central banks are wrongly influenced by very moron advisors whose view will create a big mess!
Technology in our industry makes strides and the new newbuildings is a MUST, a dictated MUST if you like it!
Geopolitics are going to blow us up given that, besides the warring atmosphere we live in, the trade wars begin; with the economic wars already creating even more mess in a bankrupt world!
MIGRANTS, the devastating wars and atrocities in Syria by ALL sides, the Iraqi issue still on, with Kurds being once again forgotten, with Turks showing their …very civilised face, the super powers having the proxy wars there on in full development… Greece in its own internal and external troubles – Cyprus too… If there is a conflagration in the east Med, you all know whose fault is – no excuses please… Ah! What about the BREXIT saga which will derail the lot before the UK gets back in order and Europe in the mess – many more nations ae heading for the EXIT!!! Expecting the new German administration and the new Italian coalition government… Expecting also somebody to streamline the EU!!! The UK and Russia are at odds again; one needs a Sleuth. Let’s see what happened and why to the double agent…
At the other side of the Atlantic president Donald Trump supporting his country steel and aluminium industries proceeded with his announced tariffs – caution… There have been exemptions, but wait the end result! Meantime in the absence of the US from the Asia – Pacific deal the TPP, it has been renamed as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). It slashes tariffs too; we shall see…
Can China get better? What is going to happen with ailing Africa ? South and Latin Central America?
Anyway, cross your fingers as things get twisted and perplexed politics ae the name of the game!
On another note today we all celebrate the International Women’s day; the best so far event/gathering happened in Constantinople (Istanbul) were thousands of women took to the streets condemning the state of affairs they live in, chanting words against the president Erdogan… A unique and monumental event at İstiklâl Caddesi, Greek: Μεγάλη Οδός του Πέραν, French: Grande Rue de Péra, English: Independence Avenue at the European side of the City!
Have a nice evening and be on guard for every eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
