The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained 37 points earlier on today and now reads 1,193 – a faction below the 1,200 point-threshold. Geopolitics as always chaotic and Posidonia is now in full swing; John Faraclas’ brief recap:
The Capes’ BCI was up 110 points and now stands at 1,710 lifting the entire dry market although this is NOT to be taken for granted as a healthy or upwards moving market should have all its indices on a plus mode…
The Panamaxes BPI was up 25 points and now reads 1,217 – a bit of a happy note here…
Stranded Supras and Handies remain an enigma; the BSI and BHSI grounded at 1,061 and 583 points respectively; caution…
No matter what people say, mainly the gurus and the analysts as well as all those who are speaking at Posidonia expressing their views on the Dry mainly markets, we remind them ALL that the BDI is minus 1,054 points from the end of December 2013 when the index stood at 2,247. This is the harsh reality.
The Wets on a falling mode; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 754 – no change and 549 – down six points respectively.
The WTI ended the day at US$ 64.75 – on a falling mode but you never ever know.
The Geopolitics seems to …peak-up as the issue that might affect shipping, possibly in its entirety! We strongly recommend all to study and watch the geopolitical aspects…
Posidonia 2019 in full swing; a great debate yesterday (Sunday) at Divani Appolon Palace in Vouliagmeni by Lloyd’s List should have been extended as there were too many questions, but some of them were discussed at the buffet luncheon by the pool; delegates remained until late to …pin down the speakers… Richard Meade had a lot to do as all four speakers’ points triggered the interest of the delegates for questions. Nick Brown from Lloyd’s Register, John Platsidakis from Intercargo, Alex Panagopoulos and Yianni Martinos were all in a great idea with new ideas and a good approach to the challenges shipping is faced with… Excellent.

Anna-Maria Monogioudis, Captain Pantelis Monogioudis, john Scondrias, and Ram Vadlamannati senior VP of PPG Marine Coatings
The biggest event gathering for a company dealing with marine coatings took place at the Yacht Club of Greece early on Sunday night. The Monogioudis Family headed by Captain Pantelis Monogioudis who runs Aegean Protective Coatings attracted nearly 1.000 guests – 40 percent where Chians showing their support.
For the first time in recent years there was no parking availability… Great News too on the company’s new products and services by PPG!
Margetis managed to exceed even his own expectations at the company’s party at the Island’s Prive rooms, balcony and hill-top grounds down in Attica’s Varkiza. Who wasn’t there; and what a live music that was! Pascahlis not just rejuvenated, he was at his best!
And a note: We had to park and then find a taxi to take us at the venue….
A nice ending of a rather busy Sunday, but Posidonia events have no limits…
Early morning today, another kick-start with the biennial Capital Link event at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Central Athens; an event which must be repeat by public demand as due to time restrictions and the Posidonia opening at the other end of Attica there wasn’t Q&A time and delegates demand this.
A great debate with many from the top brush of Greek and International shipping delivering some interesting points of view despite if we agree or not; time, as always will tell! Obviously news in this instance is what they don’t tell us and vested interests by the speakers, indeed should be protected, but… as said in the previous sentence, time will tell!
Early super cocktails, drinks and dips at the fully renovated Blends in Glyfada, south of Athens in a very jovial mood and indeed warm atmosphere with Cleaves securities and eShipfinance.com attracting the interest of the selected few for something innovative, easy, fast and secure. Our good old friends Dagfinn Lunde with Marina Tzoutzouraki and Per Olav Karlsen held a memorable early evening event with everybody at easy and unwinding with interesting discussions. Good to see many good old friends even from our academic years in the sixties and seventies in the UK!
A road accident – with a chocke-block standstill, made us abort the Posidonia opening ceremony and we headed up north at the Ecali Club, another place of reference, for the DNV GL’s Posidonia reception! Interesting organisation with the Press on a VIP position by the pull and a couple of tables for the London Greek Shipping Fraternity; a very thoughtful move by Kostas Papadakis… Fantastic!
We will revert with a full coverage of all the events mentioned above and with more photos; watch this space!
Have a nice evening wherever you are in Attica, enjoy the parties and see you at the Exhibition! Good Luck to all at and for Posidonia. Remind you all, as always to be on guard wherever you are on Planet Ocean from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists and Criminals of any kind. Take care!
