A flag raising ceremony will be held at 0800 hours on 1 July 2018 at the Bauhinia Square outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. During the ceremony, a sea parade made up of launches of the disciplinary services will proceed from Causeway Bay to HKCEC between 0745 hours and 0805 hours, and display water jets off HKCEC at 0800 hours.

Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of all vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and give a wide berth to the parade fleet.

Traffic suspended due to fog

Vessel traffic in the Bosphorus was suspended due to the poor visibility as a result of dense fog between 06.35 and approximately 09.30 hours local time this morning (27 June).

Removal of light buoy and establishment of virtual aid to navigation

From 25 June, the light buoy “K1” located in Urmston Road, northwest of Black Point, [is] removed.

After the removal, an Automatic Identification System (AIS) virtual aid to navigation will be established over the position of the removed light buoy to indicate the eastern boundary of the deep water area.

The details of the virtual aid to navigation are as follows:

Masters of vessels navigating in the vicinity are advised that the virtual aid to navigation established above is transmitted by lands based AIS station and is not physically in existence. The virtual aid to navigation could only be seen and displayed on navigational equipment, such as Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) and Radar, connected with an appropriate AIS device. Vessel without AIS or in the absence of ECDIS or Radar overlay will not be able to fully utilize the virtual aid to navigation.

LNG cargo proportion level raised

The Suez Canal Authority has announced that, with effect from 1 July 2018, the allowed cargo residues of LNG tankers to qualify for the ballast vessels due rate will be raised to a maximum of 5% of the vessel’s summer deadweight (compared to 2% in effect to date).

This measure has been taken in a bid to meet the desire of LNG tanker owners and operators and to encourage more LNG tankers to transit the Suez Canal.
