The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost four points earlier on today and now reads 1,756 points. Geopolitics still messy. John Faraclas’ brief market recap:
The Capes were also a bit down despite its BCI increase of 19 points – now reading 3,534 points. Still a Capes so to speak Market, but hold a small basket…!
The BPI lost 48 points and now stands at 1, 491 points;. Four points down for the Supras’ BSI now reading 1,032 and minus three points for the Handies’ BHSI now standing at 544…
What a strange Dry market this is…
The Wets still on a low mode. The last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 760 and 492 points respectively…
The WTI ended up at US$ 68.90 – thank God below the US$ 70 mark…
On the S and P front, the buying spree either in second hand tonnage – including entire fleets and newbuilding orders continues relentlessly. Let’s she who survives and goes ahead.
We are entering now a phase in Shipping not just one that will lead to Shipping for the very very very few, but also one with ultra-demanding technological and geopolitical needs and scope… Given the odd Trade Wars, a necessity and preamble to strengthen the already existing warring climate, situation if you like, expect a messy market and too many hiccups…
As for the Geopolitical issues there is an increase of problems all over Planet Ocean… and as said in past reports we are technically at War! The Third World War is on; get the message before it is too late.
The MIGRANTS saga continues to be the number one issue but simultaneously the way same is being tackled is completely wrong. Even to this moment as you read these lines, the EU is in tatters with NO coherent policy. The Social Cohesion is being broken and must be reversed, otherwise expect horrible and despicable things to happen.
The Wars in Syria and Iraq continue as well as the total situation in the Middle East and in its wider periphery is uncontrollable.
Turkey in tatters too; financially bankrupt and politically in chaos. Geopolitically the confrontation with the USA will lead to a total mess with incalculable repercussions for all. Turkeys stance against its neighbours is despicable too particularly with Greece and Cyprus. Add what we numerous times have stressed: stirring up the Balkans… Add there the Russian effort for influence…
Greece next door with its long-lasting financial mess and international issues is now living the mess of the Wildfires whee NO one has yet resigned! SHAME !

On another note and tone the 30th Anniversary of the Society of Diaspora Chians – Omogenia, takes place over the next three days in the Greek Aegean Island of Chios. At the Homerion Cultural Centre in the capital of the Island, a conference will take place with local and international Greek and Chian Greek speakers. On Saturday following a mass at the Chios’ Cathedral honouring the memory of Chians in Diaspora there will be a naming ceremony of a square as “Square of the Diaspora and Locals – Omogenias” under the auspices of the Municipality of Chios. Later on in the evening a Dinner and Dance Reception will take place at the Nautical Club of Chios. Finally on Sunday there will be an auction of Artwork – paintings by Chian artists at the famous Citrus Centre in Cambos. Don’t miss this unique three-day event/ anniversary for which we will revert with a full report.
Remind you the Lodia on the 8th of August as well as the Vrontados Centennial 10,11 and 12 August. The Chios Marine Club too stages a beach party on the 18th of August at Ormos Los ! Also from the 21 to 23 September the 1st Navigator Shipping Decision Makers Weekend takes place on Chios. A Chian summer full of events in the World’s most famous shipping Island.
