Today The China Navigation Co (CNCo) opened its doors at a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new offices in Vancouver. CNCo is a leading provider of sustainable shipping solutions, based in Singapore and held directly by the parent company John Swire & Sons, headquartered in the U.K. The company has three business divisions: Swire Bulk (dry bulk shipping), Swire Shipping (multipurpose liner services) and Swire Bulk logistics (marine solution specialists). The company owns and operates over 130 eco-friendly vessels.
The Province of British Columbia partnered with the federal government of Canada and the International Shipowners Alliance of Canada to invest in the Vancouver International Maritime Centre (the “VIMC”) to attract new investments, such as CNCo, which has chosen Vancouver to expand its global footprint into the North American market.
The VIMC has promoted Vancouver as the preferred global location for the international shipping market. By marketing Canada’s strategic location and business opportunities, the 3-year VIMC project has exceeded all its targets and has had an economic impact of over $18 million by attracting over 8 international companies and creating over 200 jobs.
