The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost three points since yesterday and now reads 1,691. Geopolitics are, as predicted from this medium, worryingly warry! John Faraclas’ brief Markets and Geopolitics note:
So at 1,691 the BDI survives an otherwise Summer of Discontent, a decisive Market given the World’s worse Geopolitical state post WW2. On a weekly basis the BDI was down 82 !! points – from 1,773.
The Capes’ BCI gained eight points – now standing at 3,480, but on a weekly basis lost 182 points… from 3,632.
The Panamaxes BPI continue to fall, now at 1,339- down ten points and on a weekly basis down 108 – from 1,447 points..
The Supra’ BSI stood at 1,039 – up three points and nine points plus from last week’s 1,030 points. so long as the Supras remain above the 1,000 point-threshold, that’s good…
The Handies’ BHSI down one at 542 and also down one from last Friday the 3rd of August when it stood at 543 points.
All in all an uncertain Dry Market, still 550 points below that of the end of December 2013 when it stood at 2,247 points! Add the latest with the Trade Wars, sanctions and the likes and above all the USA’s strong message to Ankara and beyond and see what you might end up seeing… very soon…
Ups and downs for the Wets too. The BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 713 – minus four and 489 – plus ten points respectively. On a weekly basis the Dirties were down 43 points – from 756 and the Cleans were down just one point – from 490…
The WTI as these lines are written stood at US$ 66.78; better of though for the poor masses worldwide since last Friday the 3rd of August when it stood at US$ 68.40 – this is a good weekly drop! Let’s hope the drop continues…
Geopolitics with the major twist and turn with Turkey and the determined USA’s president Trump to wipe-off any “resistance” are going to bother us a lot. Look out for the Greek – Russian saga; an accident waiting to happen!
