IBIA Seminar on “New Fuels – New Rules – New Technologies”
On Wednesday 24th September IBIA held a seminar at the offices of the UK Chamber of Shipping, attended by about 50 delegates from many different sectors of our industry.
The seminar was opened by Bob Sanguinetti, the CEO of the UK Chamber of Shipping and an IBIA board member, who welcomed the delegates, thanked our sponsor Endress + Hauser, supporter Bunker One and media sponsor Ship & Bunker and introduced Stephen Endress, Managing Director of Endress + Hauser Ltd.
Nigel Draffin, an IBIA board member, looked at the changes we must face with the introduction of the new global cap of 0.50% sulphur, the problems of compliance and enforcement. Michael Green of Intertek Shipcare and IBIA Chairman, discussed the issues we may expect with the introduction of new fuel blends to meet the sulphur cap.

In the second session Ingo Knudsen, Business Development Management Marine Flow Solutions of Endress + Hauser, discussed the operating principles and features of Mass Flow Metering (MFM) systems and Minas Hatzistamatiou, Marine & Lubricants Sales Manager of Coral Marine, described the application of MFM and custom software to their bunker deliveries in Piraeus.
The final presentation came from Adrian Pask, Key account Manager – Europe and Africa of BP Marine fuels and an IBIA board member, who explained the approach being followed by BP Marine in meeting their customers’ needs for fuels post 2020.
Each of the sessions was followed by a lively Q&A session, which continued into the mid-afternoon coffee break and throughout the reception at the end of the event.

Endress + Hauser have displayed and demonstrated a Marine Bunkering System and also had a Mass Flow Meter on show. These systems have been successfully applied in many installations worldwide.
