‘LNG Carriers: Present Challenges & Future Trends’ – a Bureau Veritas seminar in Athens, Greece, on a topic of growing interest for the Greek ship owners
Piraeus, April 05th, 2019 ‘LNG Carriers : Present Challenges & Future Trends’, was a Bureau Veritas seminar held on the 20th of March 2019 at InterContinental Hotel in Athens, Greece. The meeting was hosted and coordinated by Dr. John Kokarakis, Technology & Business Development Director of the Hellenic, Black Sea and Adriatic Zone Bureau Veritas.
Members of some of the most prominent companies of the shipping cluster of Greece participated in the seminar, showing great interest in the subjects under discussion. The participants were welcomed by Mr George Andreadis, Bureau Veritas Marine Chief Executive for Greece.
The Seminar comprised of eight presentations delivered by Bureau Veritas experts from the Greek and the Head Office of the company in Paris and also from representatives of Winterhur Gas & Diesel Ltd, MAN Energy Solutions and GTT.
Mr. Carlos Guerrero, Global Market Leader, Tankers & Gas Carriers Bureau Veritas presented the emerging challenges & opportunities in the LNG segment.
Mrs Diane Ruf, Head of Risk, Reliability & Maintenance Bureau Veritas elaborated on the risk assessment for LNG handling systems.
Messers Karim Chapot, and Victor Alessandrini, Technical Director and Business Development Manager of Gaztransport & Technigaz – GTT respectively presented the GTT latest updates membrane technologies.
The first part of the seminar closed with Mr Volkmar Galke, General Manager of WIN GD and his significantly interesting presentation entitled “X-DF leading LNG propulsion technologies and its experience”.
After the coffee break Mr Kjeld Aabo, Director of New Technologies at MAN Energy Solutions spoke about Fuel 2020 and the latest ME-GI development along with the latest service experience for ME-GI and Burckhardt Compressor.
Mr Philippe Cambos, Director Offshore Technical Department Bureau Veritas made a presentation on the recent innovative membrane LNG containment systems assessed by Bureau Veritas and was followed by Dr. John Kokarakis who focused on regulatory updates and design challenges of LNG carriers.
The seminar concluded with a joint presentation by Messrs. Guerrero, Kokarakis, Cambos and Chapot on the recent project of the Yamal Arctic LNGs.
