The BDI@869; not too much steam…

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) despite gains remains a perplexed enigma given that we cannot verify- at least for the time being a sustainable future… Geopolitics becoming crucial given the presence of US Navy’s powerful force – two aircraft carriers in East Med, 10 escort ships, 130 aircrafts and 9,000 sailors and marines to counter Russia’s enhanced military presence. John Faraclas’ brief daily recap:

With 19 points plus …” “instead” of 31 and 29 gained in the last two previous days respectively, the BDI seems lucking steam… Time will soon tell…

The Capes’ BCI was on a dropping but plus double digit value of 691 points– plus 43…

The Panamaxes too with only five points plus at 1,182 trying for better…

Single plus figures for the Supras’ BSI now at 781 – plus eight…

Minus a point for the struggling Handies now at 391…

The Wets with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 636 – minus eight and 573 – plus two points respectively!

CAUTION for all fronts…

The Box trade picked up slightlyfor teh same period like last year and let’s hope that better days are on the way struggling containerships despite the latest hiccups. After all the box will continue to dominate intermodalism to all intents and purposes subject of course we see the World Debt of US$ 250 trillion being “written off”… a midsummer’s night dream so to speak and protectionism ease – personally doubt it…

LNG newbuilding orders might greatly help the environment and shipyards…

Arctic Shipping another issue to watch…

All in all World Trade dives… CAUTION as the drums of war can be heard…

The WTI as these lines are being written stands at US$ 65.21 (23:00). We shall see later on in the update if there is a change and will advise you…

Geopolitics more than perplexed; all issues we mention over the last three years in particular remain the same. Add  the latest show of force by the USA in East Med and see what you get!

President Putin of Russia met North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un near Vladivostock. The young man need guarantees but who can offer him this “gesture”…

President Macron in France tries his best with the yellow vests… dangerous acrobatics…

Silence with the BREXIT saga but Scotland wishes another referendum to leave the United Kingdom and conversely… rejoin the EU in case of a BREXIT… Mind the Irish issues resurfacing yet again at a time nobody in need of deterioration of the Good Friday Agreement… You see BREXIT opened Aeolus’ winds….

More MIGRANT troubles all over with Army strengthening the US – Mexican border… In the Mighty Continent – that’s Europe by the way, the MIGRANTS continue to cause major problems and breaking / destroying the social cohesion giving also rise to Nationalism and Right Wind parties taking the upper hand… Silly politicians as well us incompetent diplomats and Commissioners are to blame! We have to repeat our position that the only practical way is a Naval Blockade with a Mandate and Rules of Engagement in all areas / hot spots from were MIGRANTS depart for their freedom to the detriment though of local populations in the counties they arrive….

Election fever in Europe with the upcoming European Parliament elections and a few more like in Greece with the Municipal ones and we must not rule out a Greek snap general election… Too many issues with Greece…. Meantime in Greece thee is an unprecedented exodus from the main cities to the county side and mainly to the Greek Islands in both the Aegean and Ionian Seas for the forthcoming Easter this Sunday the 28th of April. The Aegean Sea’s sea lanes where worse than highways and roads from reports and delays we were told of by members of the allaboutshipping team…

Next door bankrupt Turkey, the sick man of Europe, might become dangerous for all its neighbours… You see President Erdogan still cannot believe losing the main cities to the opposition following the municipal elections there ten days or so ago…

China tries hard with the new Belt and Road Forum II; as we have stressed we don’t believe in the viability of this logistics project as the parameters with geopolitical issues in the region will require at least one million soldiers to safeguard such a road… I guess many miss the asymmetrical risk assessment for such a project. It’s all fine on a two keys better than one basis – sea and land from China to Europe but…!!! It reminds me of some ambitious plans in the Balkans to link the Axios River (Greece, Yugoslavia) with the Danube…in 1977/8 and then 12 years late we were faced with the “collapse” of former Yugoslavia… Remember: the safest way for carrying on with any trade’s intermodalism means same should be led by ships; end of the story!

And what do you make of the wrong counting of the death toll in Sri Lanka…

Did I  hear you say Venezuela…?

Have a nice evening and remain on guard from actions emanating by Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
