WOC Joins World Benchmarking Alliance

WOC Becomes World Benchmarking Alliance Partner to Advance Development of Sustainability Criteria for Global Ocean Business Community

9 May 2019

The World Ocean Council (WOC) – the Global Blue Economy Business Organization – is pleased to announce that it has become an official “Ally” of the World Benchmarking Alliance. The WOC will work with the WBA and its network of Allies to develop criteria and benchmarks for sustainable development relevant to the ocean business community.

The World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) was formed to increase the role of the private sector in advancing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The WBA is developing transformative benchmarks and indicators to measure company performance in relation to the SDGs. These metrics are leveraging existing international norms and standards and are backed by best available science.

WBA Allies represent a large mix of parties relevant to the encompassing scope and scale of the SDGs. These include business networks, financial institutions, multi-lateral organizations and civil society groups. WBA Allies are working to create long-term impact through enhanced transparency and understanding of private sector’s potential to maximize their contribution to the U.N. 2030 Agenda
