13 for luck (?) as the BDI remains above the 1,000 points

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained 13 points since last Friday the 10th of May and now stands at 1,026 points. Geopolitics still perplexed with Turkey, Iran, North Korea creating mess; not to add Venezuela and the USA vs. China Trade War. John Faraclas’ brief recap:

The Capes’ BCI went over and above the 1,400 points threshold at 1,405 with the 35 points today! CAUTION though as this volatile size has always produced oxymoron results.

The Panamaxes’ BPI  at 1,211 – plus 13 points… over and above the 1,200 points mark!

The Supras’ BSI was up three points at 782…

The Handies’ BSI remained at 382…

Mixed feelings for the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 697 – plus 17 and 516 – minus five points respectively…

The WTI was just over the US$ 61 at US$ 61.04!

Geopolitics continue to be messy; more Migrants lost and more hypocrisy than ever before from all politicians and diplomats involved…

Turkey’s actions and attitude is despicable threatening war in the East Med and the Balkans region and terribly bullying Cyprus… It’s about time president Erdogan abandon dirty practices and respects international law. At the same time the EU and NATO must reprimand Turkey and safeguard peace in the entire region…

Greek politicians must get their act together and abandon dirty party politics… Populism if continued might create havoc in Greece…

BREXIT still in limbo and the United Kingdom will definitely participate in the European Elections… The political chart in Britain changes… The fault though rests with Brussels!

President Trump has four main issues to tackle abroad: Venezuela, North Korea, China and Turkey… Internally he must clear every disputed issue vis-à-vis the elections and the Russian interference…

Iran might become a mess if the USA wants to destroy anyone who denies its supremacy and goes against the American interests and that of America’s allies!

The Trade War with China and the USA dangerously escalates…

On another tone and note the media press conference of the Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum on board the  Celestyal Crystal at the Port of Piraeus was more than a success. The event was moderated by Artemis Vamvacopoulou and introduced by Theodore  Vokos, the managing director of Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. Speakers included: the secretary general of the Ports, Ports Policy and maritime investments of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Christos Lambridis,  the secretary general for Tourism Policy and Development in the Greek Ministry of Tourism George Tziallas, Theodore Kontes, the president of the Union of Greek Cruise Ships Owners and Associated Members, Maria Deligianni, Government & Public Affairs Rep Eastern Med, CLIA Europe, George  Alexandratos from the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping and the president of the Hellenic Professional Yacht Owners Association HPYOA, Antonis Stelliatos.

After the sort presentations by the above mentioned stakeholders and officials, a nice lunch followed with lots to discuss between the organisers, the stakeholders and over thirty journalists until the main event takes place on the 28 and 29th of May at the Domotel Kastri Conference Centre, north of Athens. Excellent service and hospitality by the vessel’s company and crew!
