Fifth Annual Stakeholders’ Conference

Do we need a “Big Bang” for the European maritime logistics strategy?

Brussels, November 28th, 2019

From 9:00 a.m. till 6:30 p.m.

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the topic of FEPORT’s Fifth Annual Stakeholders’ Conference: “Do we need a “Big Bang” for the European maritime logistics strategy?”

Do you know what a “Big Bang” is?

Some may think about an explosion, a cosmic change, a violent event, a beginning? An end? …

To know more, we shall have the pleasure to listen to a well-known astrophysicist who will share with us his knowledge about the “Big Bang” theory.

All players within the maritime logistics chain are experiencing the effects of disruption for the better and the worse but is it the end or the beginning of a new era? Aren’t we all expanding vertically, horizontally, via digital tools? The world is becoming smaller and wider at the same time…

But do we have the good framework to cope with the rapid pace of changes that are affecting us? Are our rules in the EU too self-centric and too defensive?
Do we need to reform EU competition rules to adapt to a multipolar world where fair competition does not always prevail?

What is the future of multilateralism? Do we need to change paradigm?

Can we afford to focus only on growth while our planet is facing an important climate crisis? Are we sufficiently ambitious to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis?
How can industry and policy makers work together for a Green New Deal? How can investments in R&D support the transition of maritime transport towards decarbonization? Are we sufficiently ambitious to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis?

Will robots replace human workers? How will the use of Artificial Intelligence impact maritime industries? How will upskilling support the emergence of new job profiles? Should the European Green New Deal also include a strategy for employment and jobs for the future?

More questions will come after Summer…

Looking forward to welcoming you.

Kind regards,

FEPORT
