Bulbul expected to make landfall

Very severe Cyclonic Storm Bulbul is likely to make landfall at the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast by late this evening or night (9 November), bringing very heavy rain and gale force winds of up to 135kmph along the coastline.

Bulbul was centered about 110km east-southwest of Paradip, 190km south-southwest of Sagar Islands (West Bengal) and 340km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) at 05.30 hours local time today. It is likely to weaken gradually and cross the coast between Sagar Islands of West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh, with a reduced force as a severe cyclonic storm.

It has triggered heavy rainfall coupled with strong wind in the Odisha coast. Squally weather with wind speeds touching 60kmph prevail over coastal Odisha districts. In the last 24 hours, Paradip received highest rainfall of 159mm, followed by Chandbali with 143 mm and Balasore 32 mm of rainfall.

At Paradip port, cargo operations on all working vessels were suspended from 2100 hours yesterday until the cyclone passes. All vessels waiting at anchorage shifted to open seas.

At Haldia, all inward/outward vessel movements were suspended from 0430 hours today. All vessels waiting at anchorage shifted to open seas.

Working and waiting vessels at Dhamra port have shifted to open seas. Port operations were suspended yesterday evening.
