Your Transformation Update from Fathom World – 17 Nov. 2019
Hello and welcome to the week’s Transformation,
The sixth of seven meetings of the IMO’s working group on the reduction of GHG emissions from ships met last week. Ships’ speed was high on the agenda, with the lobby groups disagreeing on the week’s progress. Such disagreement is not unusual for these kinds of talks, even though in this instance there is more support for speed reductions than there was when the green lobby put the idea forward nearly a decade ago.
This week’s Transformation also looks at another ongoing challenge for shipping, ship recycling, with Samantha Fisk looking at efforts to bring the recycling facilities into the Hong Kong Convention.
In the digital sphere Brian Dixon looks at two new transactional blockchain solutions that are being rolled out across shipping and logistics. He also looks at how Sweden’s Stena Group has used Artificial Intelligence as a bridge tool to help save fuel.
