Capes’ triple-digit fall brings the BDI below the 1,000 point threshold!!
Yesterday’s headline from this medium on the 2020 being an Annus Horribilis was spectacularly proven verbatim right today with the BDI (Baltic Dry Index) losing 114 points. At 976 sends the message: tough times ahead. Geopolitics started with plentiful of mess around. CAUTION! John Faraclas’ brief market recap:
The Capes’ BCI lost 304 points and now at 1,646, having lost the 1,700, 1,800 and 1,900 thresholds brings more uncertainty with incalculable repercussions for all. Still an optimist but reality bites.
The Supras lost the 700 points threshold and now read 685 – minus 33!!!
No availability for the points lost on the Panamaxes and Handies which fell to 1,003 and 465 points respectively! Strange eh!!!
All in all the gap between today’s BDI and that as of the end of Dec 2013 – six years ago stands at 1,271 points (2,247 minus 976)!
The Wets too on a diving mode but here things are very different; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 1,503 – minus 94 and 889 – minus 69 points respectively. The Cleans lost the 900 point threshold…
The WTI stood slightly higher at US$ 61.17 (61.06 on the 31 Dec 2019) CAUTION as whatever today is above the US$ 49.99 is detrimental for the Global Economy and creates havoc – leading to poverty and misery for the 7.6 out of 7.7 billion people on Planet Ocean; this is the bottom line!!!!
The Geopolitics got worse with the Med being the main focal point particularly with the despicable Turkish behaviour vis-à-vis the Libyan issue which jeopardises international law on all counts. Time for president Erdogan to go or else… Good to see an interesting counter with the signing today in Athens of the EASTMED pipeline agreement between Cyprus, Greece and Israel. Italy, Israel, Cyprus, Egypt and Greece cooperate and create a deterrence against the forces wishing to destroy Peace in the region!
The MIGRANTS maintained the …”lead” as the most important issue primarily in the MED/EUROPE region and secondary in the USA with the USA/Mexico messy wall issue… We reiterate our view that only a Naval Blockade, with a Mandate and Rules of Engagement can deter the despicable Turkish and Islamists actions… Over the last eight years though this medium we have stress in any way the importance of halting this despicable situation supported by Erdogan’s Turks and, unfortunately having the European morons in Brussels keeping an on purpose blind eye. The day of reckoning though will come and we will be more than pleased to see the politicians punishment…
The faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Hon of Africa with its ten focal points including the Balkans, East Med – Aegean and the Middle East, continued to produce despicable mess with incalculable repercussions for 2020 and beyond; watch this space…

The main Stock Markets (FTSE 100, Dow Jones, Dax, Nikkei, Hang Seng Index and Shanghai’s Composite) “sustained” the Trade “Wars” particularly “that” between the USA and China. 2019 was indeed a good year – far better than 2018 but in our humble view the bubble still exists…. BREXIT too was, is and will remain an issue until same is “solved”… Never ever forget the Global Debt which now is US$ 255 (twohundredandfityfive) trillion… what can produce!

On another tone and note Vrontadoussian Chiot Despina Vlissidou was honoured in FOV’s (ΦΟΒ) centre in Vrontados (Omiroupolis) for her 40 (forty) plus years participation and contribution in the life of Vrontados’ municipality and the hundreds of charitable events all over Chios and in other Geek cities.
The Award was given by the Metropolitan of Chios Marcos in the presence of FOV’s president Polidoros Stiros.

Mrs. Despina Houli Vlissidou was elected as a Councillor in the Municipality of Vrontados on the Greek Island of Chios in the Eastern Aegean Sea, at a young age in 1975 and become also deputy mayor!!
Nicked-named the “Iron Lady of the local authority” she has a lot, still, to offer! Over 100 guests attended and we will revert with a write up as there were some more awards. Many Congratulations!
