Weathering the Storm

Analogies are being made to pivotal times in our histories:  9/11, the Great Recession, the Plague and more.  What we know is that the maritime industry will power through it.

There are some aspects that aren’t working as well as hoped, though.  Due to the pandemic, and associated government restrictions, we have a situation where the usual crew exchange isn’t running smoothly.  Some crewmembers are forced to remain on their vessels, while others who expect to join ships are stuck in hotel rooms.  Let’s hope that snag gets worked out.

.

There are highlights coming through the gloom:  tanker rates soared amidst the Saudi/Russian entanglement.  Factories are opening up in China and shipments are recommencing.  No new cases of COVID 19 in Wuhan!

I am also struck by our ability for humor.  I have seen videos of lean men dancing as “pre-virus” and a pot-bellied “after-virus” and lack of exercise!  I also enjoyed a daily horoscope that predicted for each sign “You will be spending time in your home.”

Keep optimizing,
