Few people can understand these Markets, Geopolitics and Coronavirus

It might sound cynical but this is the truth… Capes “lift” the BDI from the sea-bottom and now at 427 “promises” to surpass the first “hurdle” being that of 500 points – we have a long way to go…  Messy Geopolitics with the US$ 260 trillion global debt are now a ticking bomb coupled with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) mess. John Faraclas’ daily recap:

20 points plus and the BDI  (Baltic Dry Index) “sets” sail… and promises…

The volatile and uncertain Capes saw the BCI up 68 points approaching the 100 points mark – 94 means a lot…

As expected the Panamaxes BPI, our most favourable size, went under the 600 point mark, only just though at 599 CAUTION…

Plus six points for the Supras’ BSI now standing at 456… and plus three for the Handies’ BHSI now reading 233 concluded the bleak Dry reality…

Containerships too suffer and the latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) mess will make it even worse…

Both Liner and Trump shipping suffer and they suffer a lot..

What a fall out that was with the Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 847 – minus five and 680 – minus 24 respectively… CAUTION…

The WTI was dangerously up at US$ 31.82 – now, above the US$30 mark things will become inappropriate for the 7.7 billion on Planet Ocean as with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) mess only 100 million people can afford it. Thank Posidon that we have summer already in the Northern Hemisphere…

Last Friday night we tried to wake you up and we are pleased to see that many turned out and responded for an in depth discussion. There were two issues we were “challenged”: That of the advisors and the economists to which we countered with Kirk Kerkorian’s saying: “If economists were any good in business, they would be rich men instead of advisers to rich men” , and the other issue was the anathema of Taxation which governments and their clever dicks will try to impose to cover all “supportive” measures they take for the public, but they have to take it back – as usual, to which we responded per Albert Einstein’s maxim “The hardest thing in the World is to understand  income tax”.

The Geopolitical situation remains dangerous and we warn all on the pestering attitude by Turkey against Greece, Cyprus, Syria, Iraq and Libya… I am sure “you don’t want to read more” for other regions on Planet Ocean as this is enough… CAUTION. Turkey’s Erdogan continues to use the MIGRANTS as its Trojan Horse coupled with blackmail for his purposes. The EU and NATO  M U S T  act now!!!

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has now opened the Pandoras’ Box of Revelations and everything now comes to the fore:

No Risk Assessment plan ever existed leaving the public open to death and the economy to shrink assisting the global Recession which begun last year – I am sure you know what this entails…  for the total  destruction of Planet Ocean… AND then you expect shipowners to flourish when the State owned companies will take over, you bet? Lets see also how the Southern Hemisphere responds as Brazil’s biggest city Sao Paulo is in a mess… too many cases…

Right now for example, as you read these lines, the Cruise Industry is in limbo and nobody takes the initiative to tell Cruise Shipping Owners what’s next; shame!!! We make this note to alert you all and see how goverments, respective ministries, and port/ terminals authorities plan to cope… given the relaxation of measures so Tourism and in particular Maritime Tourism responds…

Continue to take measures against Coronavirus (COVID-19), particularly now that some countries relax / easing measures /restrictions.

On another tone and note and THANKS to Maria Dixon, Daphne Anghelidis and many other WISTAS today May 18, global regional women’s associations in the IMO Maritime Sector celebrate Women’s Day in the Maritime Sector, “Day for Women in Maritime”, with the support of the International Maritime Organization – IMO, to recognize the women in the sector.
