WOC Announces Webinar on Portal Providing Indicative Risk Assessment for Vessels: 10 June
21 May 2020 – The World Ocean Council (WOC) – the lead GloFouling Project Partner for engaging the global ocean business and investment community – invites interested parties to the GloFouling Webinar: “Vessel-Check: An Aquatic Biosecurity Risk Assessment Tool”, 10 June at 10:00 am (BST).
The webinars are part of the GEF-UNDP-IMO GloFouling Partnerships Project which is working to better understand and tackle the multi-sectoral challenge of biofouling and its impacts on marine biodiversity and the Sustainable Blue Economy.
The presentation will describe the vessel risk assessment portal “Vessel-Check” which provides a comprehensive, transparent, consistent and science-based method to aid the maritime industry and governments in identifying actions that can as low as reasonably practicable mitigate the risk of vessels transferring invasive aquatic species across the world’s oceans.
The Vessel-Check portal aids in the early detection of vessel mediated biofouling and allows for more effective risk management options. The portal is also designed for vessel owners/operators to provide information to biosecurity management agencies. Vessel-Check has been developed by the government of Western Australia, in collaboration with DHI.
