The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost 85 points since yesterday and now stands at 1,388 – losing also the 1,400 points threshold. Geopolitical events will turn sour for all given the Greek – Turkish stand-off in South East Aegean / North West East Med as Turkish despicable provocations are out of any context, with the super powers in an on purpose apathy and disarray. The Capes in yet another three digit fall; the BCI lost 190 points as well as the 2,400 and 2,300 point thresholds and now reads 2,236!!!! C A U T I O N !!!
The Panamaxes’ BPI lost 72 points and the 1,300 points threshold and now stands at 1,263…
First losses for the Supras’ BSI now at 925 – minus seven points….
An Ace plus for the Handies’ BHSI now at 470; hooray hooray…
The Wets with mixed feelings yet again…; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 530 – minus nine and 356 – plus one points respectively – what a …wet ace eh!
The WTI, as these lines are being written, reads US$ 40.95… although at certain “times” earlier on today stood above the US$ 41 mark… CAUTION…
On the Geopolitical front the stand-off continues between Greece and Turkey and it is about time we move ahead not just with telephone calls but with real action; I am referring to Mrs. Merkel’s calls to both embattled heads of Greece and Turkey. EU’s naval units as well as NATO ones – say the USA, French or British must be there on the spot to keep the Peace alive, before we end up with a general conflagration in Central Med (including Libya and Egypt), East Med, the Balkans and the entire Middle East. It is a dubious premeditated Turkish blackmail and despicable plan coupled with religion and terrorism… Enough, the bautas (the masks) must fall!
The EU – UK situ still points to no deal… Bad for both sides of the English Channel… We have said it from the right beginning: BREXIT will turn Planet Ocean upside down…
MIGRANTS still the no. 1 issue; we have been mentioning mainly the Med incl the Aegean Sea… as well as the USA / Mexico MIGRANTS mess… Now read carefully: the MIGRANTS “pandemic” is spreading north. 43 more tried to cross yesterday over to UK but were intercepted off Kent’s coast in the English Channel… Just over 3,200 (three thousand two hundred) have made it to UK in about 235 small boats this year… SHAME !!! CAUTION !!!!
Let us hope the EU economic package works well and save the day – we wish a double one to ensure survivals’ implementation…
At the other side of the Atlantic, both North and South things get sour with president Trump praising himself about his mental gnostic adequacy !!! In less than four months, the die will be cast…
In the south China Sea another built up of forces; USA and China naval forces with a multiple of USA air power can make things “happen” CAUTION.

A view from the conference
On another tone and note in Greece, at Attica’s Grand Resort Lagonissi conference hall, the Economist staged a very timely summit: “The Silver Tsunami. Overcoming the waves of an ageing population in the shadow of Covid-19”
Systematically low birth rates and higher life expectancy levels are transforming the population to such an extent that we urgently need to address this important issue through an open and meaningful dialogue on the way forward.
Excellent international speakers and greek politicians delivered very thoughtful presentations on:
- Social security and pensions after the coronavirus hit
- The role of the private sector in social security and pensions
- Climate change: how is a greying population related to global warming?
- Do we have the appropriate infrastructure to accommodate for an ageing population?
- AI – humanoid robots in an ageing society
- The other side of the coin: the positive impact of an ageing population
- Will the silver tsunami affect political thought?
