Markets fall, Geopolitics and the Coronavirus anathema rule the day
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) stood at 1,415 – up 14 points since yesterday, but on a weekly basis lost 62 – down from 1,477 (16/10) signifying uncertainty and “volatility”. Geopolitics only for strong nerves and we are witnessing top of the range exploitation and blackmail… Now, whose isn’t afraid from the Coronavirus’ Anathema, eh? John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recap:
The volatile and predictably unpredictable Capes were up 26 points since yesterday, proving that there isn’t much steam given yesterday’s 167 rise. The weekly score was minus 145 points – from 2,406 last week.
16 points plus for the Panamaxes’ BPI, now at 1,274; 59 points loss though from last Friday’s 1,323 points…
No change for both the Supras and Handies still at 972 and 597 points respectively; losses though for the weekly ones – minus four for the Supras and minus two for the Handies. Last week we had 976 and 599 points respectively…
So all in all it looks like we are lucking of steam and the next two months might become – let’s hope NOT, crucial…
The Wets with mixed feelings on a daily basis; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 417 – minus four and 597 – plus six points respectively. On a weekly basis, no change for the Dirties but a “considerable” one for the Cleans – down 22 points from 355… CAUTION.
The WTI stood at US$ 39.78, just below the US$ 40 mark which is also 96 cents lower from last Friday the 16th of October when it stood at US$ 40.74. Some good news there…
The Geopolitical scene becomes extremely dangerous and we expect deterioration on all fronts; last Friday we mentioned that we navigate in uncharted waters and we stick to this. The only difference is that the very few are calling a fast one to the hoi polloi! Who can stand today’s politicians?
MIGRANTS, which retain the number one position as an issue with incalculable repercussions for all involved, including the MIGRANTS themselves, is now on all counts a crime in the way this issue is being handled. We repeat our position, very simply and explicitly: A Naval Blockade with a Mandate and Rules of Engagement can save the day AND the MIGRANTS themselves. Anything else is pure nonsense.
As we stressed last week, the faulty line between Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses to the Horn of Africa continues to produce major upheavals with Turkey going over the top and we MUST saw zero tolerance before it is too late… CAUTION as there are ten serious hotspots. Cyprus and Greece are part of the European Union. Until now the message we receive is: Humiliation of the European Union! We shall see also, who else is being humiliated unless we see a big surprise from a well-known “entity”… The region is on fire, just wait and see… Take cover as Erdogan will do whatever it takes to see his megalomaniac dreams come true. Wonder what the Secretary-General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg has to say following his announcement a couple of hours ago that Greece and Turkey, reasoning with the situation, will stop military and naval exercises, particularly as both countries have National Days on 28 and 29 October and a few minutes later the Turks humiliate him… All along Turkophile Stoltenberg is looking to support an unreliable NATO ally; end of the story; either he makes or breaks.
On the Greco-Turkish conflict, but for other which exist all over Planet Ocean, primarily we need to see negotiators knowning and understanding the Law of the Sea and primarily Marine Insurance, needless to say how we have and allow passages for navigation in an area such as the Aegean Sea. There are more factors missing from what we hear on TV and read, hence we provoke all involved on a live debate; there we will teach you realities and not dirty politics and exploitation of small nations and vested interests by the super powers. The myth of International Waters in the way same is being served with frills MUST end. And by the way, nations who aren’t signatories to international treaties etc etc., should shut up or become signatories and then seek to seat on the dock…
Mind the Armenian – Azerbaijani conflict as same is now spreading… Turkey’s gets involved to create yet another mess and Russia works, as usual its own agenda. This is more than dangerous… AND despicable…
BREXIT becomes a serious issue and let us see if we are going to have a deal with the EU and what this deal will mean for the World too….
The European Union continues to be in total mess; can Europe hold on? For a start, the United Kingdom is leaving…
The USA’s presidential election absorbs everything these days. It’s not who gets elected, it is the day after both for the USA and its multi-facet society, as well as for all of us on Planet Ocean, the Environment and Wellbeing…
Time to seriously look after Central and South Latin America; a civil unrest might break-out in one state and then engulf the rest… It will be beyond the Who cries for you Argentina…
In the meantime, the USA vs. China Trade War continues as well as the Chinese appetite for dominance in the South China Sea… but the USA responded in supplying Taiwan with cruise missiles and other weapons… as well as heaving a strong presence there with Japan closely watching all developments including the North Korean Yellowstone…
Our prediction for Jacinda Arden’s overwhelming victory and majority in the recent election in New Zealand come true…
Lastly, we MUST ensure not to abandon Africa despite its too many chronic problems. We can stop the proxy wars there and ensure China don’t make it another mess. Obviously a MUST to end gross corruption there as well as exploitation…
Coronavirus begins to “humiliate” us all and it is here to stay for the foreseeable future… With over 41 mio cases worldwide and 1,2 million deaths it would advance further… We reiterate the view that strange things are and will continue to happen… We are afraid that most of Planet Ocean’s nations Healthcare Systems are overstressed and might collapse with the effect being shuttering…
Have a nice evening and weekend ensuring you continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean. Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let’s work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red US$ 270 (twohundredandseventy) trillion…-
