During MEPC 75 in November 2020, the IMO approved amendments to MARPOL Annex VI, introducing an Energy Efficiency Design Index for existing ships (EEXI). Subject to adoption by MEPC 76 in June 2021, the requirements will soon come into effect in 2023.
The EEXI has already been the subject of numerous discussions. Many interest groups are now trying to digest the effects and understand the way forward. They are looking for the answer to their question: “What should I do now?”
