OPPORTUNITIES FOR EU-FUNDED POLAR RESEARCH SKILL TRAINING
World Ocean Council (WOC) Invites Young Polar Research Scientists and Technicians to Online Training to Improve Technical Skills for Working On Research Icebreakers10 March 2021
The World Ocean Council (WOC) is a partner of the Arctic Research Icebreaker Consortium (ARICE). This Horizon 2020 EU-funded project has the overall aim to provide Europe with better capacities for marine-based research in the ice-covered Arctic Ocean.
WOC and the other ARICE partners have collaborated with the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) to develop training to be held in March and April of 2021.
WOC encourages early-career polar research scientists and technicians to participate in the training delivered by experts who will share their knowledge and experience. The modules cover a large range of topics including marine robotics, the challenges of atmospheric measurements, how to manage working in a laboratory when it is moving and best practices in technical science support. The course is of interest for scientists and technical professionals involved in polar research. Registration is now open on the course APECS webpage. 30 March, 08:00-11:30 (GMT) How to build a sea robot 12 April, 08:00-11:30 (GMT) Polar marine robotics 13 April, 09:00-10:30 (GMT) Mooring operations in polar waters 13 April, 16:00-18:30 (GMT) Atmospheric measurements aboard research vessels: Needs, opportunities and challenges 14 April, 08:00-09:30 (GMT) Technical Science Support at the British Antarctic Survey 14 April, 13:00-14:30 (GMT) Lab management – my lab is moving!
