Maria Mavroudi
Maria is an experienced marine insurance specialist with endless energy, innovative thinking and a charming personality; a true representative of her generation, pulsing with the enthusiasm of her youth, smart, energetic and a restless spirit.
They say that if you’re from an island then the sea is in your blood. Inspired by her love for the sea and the poems of Nikos Kavadias, Maria started her career in Shipping as an average adjuster and marine claims consultant with Charles Taylor and the Standard P&I Club, dealing with all sorts of marine and P&I claims. Being a restless spirit, Maria then decided to set sails for the “Big Apple” and the American P&I Club, where as Business Development Manager, was looking to raise the Club’s brand name in the EMEA region and develop underwriting opportunities.
An entrepreneurial spirit, Maria is always looking for something new and is willing to explore and learn unfamiliar and different things. An adventurer who relishes the opportunity of unfamiliar but exciting undertakings that fearlessly ventures to pursue. “Our life is our signature creation. It is about expanding and living our vision with authenticity, until the greatest possible expression of who we are”, you will hear her say.
Since 2017, Maria is a marine insurance broker. Having experienced the big broking houses (notably, she was the youngest Marine manager at Marsh LLC Greece), she has recently set up Searock Marine Insurance Brokers; a boutique brokerage house in Athens, Greece for specialized marine risks. Having worked on a wide spectrum of marine insurance matters in Greece, United Kingdom and New York, Maria prefers a more personal and direct relationship with her clients. With her wide experience and in-depth knowledge, Maria is able to assist the Greek shipowning community in all aspects.
In parallel, Maria has set up and successfully runs her own business in Greece on the island of Astypalea, namely Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel. Maria has managed to promote a lesser-known destination with authentic beauty that is worth visiting and has created a strong brand that offers personalized and innovative services. Kallichoron has been constantly expanding and received a number of prestigious industry awards since its establishment for the innovative services and personalized approach towards its guests, but also for its environmental consciousness, green practices and focus on sustainability.
Maria is a curious young person that is open to explore the unknown in a creative way combined with Greek spirit. It takes courage to challenge the ideas and practices that make us successful, to trust your gut and choose to charter your own way. “In a world that moves and changes so fast, holding on to conventional wisdom is no more the best option.” Maria said.
Maria is an active member of WISTA (Women in Shipping & Trading Association), having served also on the BoD of WISTA Hellas for 4 years as member and Secretary, as well as on the Communications Committee of WISTA International. She also serves as an Ambassador for City University and Cass Business School in Greece. She holds a BSc in Maritime Studies from the University of Piraeus, an MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance from Cass Business School, an LL.M. from City University and a Master Course degree on Business Strategy from Cass Business School and Bocconi University by receiving a full scholarship from the British Government. She is also a Certified Insurance Broker by the Hellenic Ministry of Development and is an Associate member of the Association of Average Adjusters.
