Nor-Shipping welcomes world to Ocean Now
Nor-Shipping is getting ready to open its digital doors to the industry, with the new Ocean Now initiative launching next week. The two-day, hybrid activity programme is free to all, with content designed to deliver value, insights, analysis, and even a little light entertainment to everyone with a commercial interest in the ocean space. Ocean Now will also build excitement for Nor-Shipping 2022 – the first ‘winter’ Nor-Shipping, taking place 10-13 January in Oslo and Lillestrøm, Norway.
“Originally, 1 June was set as the date of Nor-Shipping 2021, but, of course, the pandemic put paid to those plans,” comments Per Martin Tanggaard, Nor-Shipping Director. “So, we wanted to create something to help fill the gap left by the lack of physical gatherings, providing an event where the industry can tap into the latest developments, access opportunity, and continue collaborating. Ocean Now is the result.”
Showcasing success
Commencing on 1 June, the programme is anchored by two headline activities – The Today Show by Nor-Shipping, a unique industry ‘TV style’ talk show on day one, and Nor-Shipping Hydrogen Blue Talks – Fuelling the Future, a new, global conference (both physical and online) taking place on 2 June. In between, a range of specially curated content showcases breakthrough projects, innovations and partnerships, while there’s also coverage of a high level UNGC debate in Oslo on shipping’s green transition, local networking events, and much more.
Partner events will see DNV, DNB, Skuld, KONGSBERG and Jotun, among others, deliver digital content focusing on taking positive business #ACTION (the theme of Nor-Shipping 2022) within the ocean space. For a full list of activity please see www.nor-shipping.com/ocean-now
Unique attraction
“From the outset we realised it was pointless to try and offer a digital version of Nor-Shipping itself,” explains Tanggaard. “What makes it so special is that, for one week only, key decision makers from around the world gather, connect and build opportunity together, face-to-face. The whole spectrum of shipping and the ocean industries are represented, making it a true hub for the community, and an unmissable date in the diary. That experience can’t be recreated on a screen. So, we decided we’d do something completely different.”
He continues: “We also recognise that, with the proliferation of ‘home office’ throughout the industry, there’s a degree of screen fatigue. That’s why we’ve focused on tailoring something that really is unique, as illustrated by the inclusion of the ocean space’s first, dedicated business talk show. Ocean Now aims to offer something for everyone, and we see it as a key stepping stone on the path to our long-awaited reunion at Nor-Shipping 2022. That will, without a doubt, act both as a celebration and a launchpad for a new era of industry activity.”
Leading the way
The Today Show by Nor-Shipping features a range of high-profile guests (including DNB CEO Kjerstin Braathen, DNV CEO Remi Eriksen and Jarand Rystad, CEO Rystad Energy) as well as live music from a special Nor-Shipping band, featuring Ståle Hansen, the CEO of Skuld and Viggo Bondi, Executive Director at the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (and former member of a-ha), amongst others.
Nor-Shipping Hydrogen Blue Talks – Fuelling the Future, is a day-long paid for event taking place both online and at Nor-Shipping’s Nova Studios in Lillestrøm, Norway. Participants include leading national and global renewable energy and maritime stakeholders, such as Tina Bru, Norway’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Bjørn Simonsen, CEO Saga Pure, Steinar Madsen, CEO Topeka, and many more.
