Wind-assisted propulsion systems as a decarbonization strategy

Wind-assisted propulsion systems (WAPS) manufacturers are predicting significant fuel savings and emission reductions which could help ship operators meet future emission limits.

Wind will always be available in suitable regions at no cost – giving you a certain planning reliability and independence from the supply and price fluctuations of combustible fuels. A number of mature WAPS are currently being trialed on board merchant ships of all types and sizes, from rotor sails to wing and turbo sails, many of which were originally developed for yacht racing.

Read more about the many new projects and technologies and their emission- reduction potential in our Maritime Impact expert story.
