The BDI@2,558 whilst Wets are falling; mess in Ukraine and Covid remains out at large

John Faraclas

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) …accelerated with Capes’ triple digit rise; Wets strangely enough fell. Messy events and stalemate in Ukraine with long Covid being the name of …game… John Faraclas’ brief midweek recap:

The BDI was up 206 points at 2,558 surpassing the 2,400 and 2,500 points threshold…

Capes’ BCI was up 386 points at 2,282, going over and above the psychological level of 2,000 points and also conquering both the 2,100 and 2,200 points threshold…

Panamaxes’ BPI safe above the 3,000 points continue its upwards trend with the addition of 153 points and now read 3,194; excellent!

Supras’ BSI was up 112 points and now reads 2,845; the 2,800 points threshold being successfully conquered…

The Handies too did well; minimal rise but surpassed the 1,500 points’ threshold and the BHSI now standing at 1,505 points.

All in all a good Dry Market but be cautious; its early days and with the conflict in Ukraine still on you never ever know what will happen, even if the warring norm is favourable…

The Wets “managed” to …fall following an unprecedented rise after a long time being both (Dirties and Cleans) under the 1,000 point threshold; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 1,349 – minus 75 (losing the 1,400 points threshold) and 1,033 – minus 16 points respectively. CAUTION.

The WTI lost US$ 15 (fifteen) since yesterday (US$ 123.70) and now stands at US$ 108.70; spectacular. Watch this space…

On the Geopolitical front everything is focused on Ukraine and the meeting tomorrow at Antalya in Turkey of the two Foreign Secretaries, Russia’s Lavrov and Ukraine’s Kuleba. As we wrote yesterday, same will NOT lead to any breakthrough whatsoever; total failure in our humble view.

Did I hear you say sanctions? Well ensure you observe same are 101 performed; not like tackling Covid where protocols were NOT observed as they should!!!

Shame to all; I guess UN’s Secretary-general must feel ashamed. With all due respect, Mr. Guterres is unable to intervene and stop both combatants; shame… But Nemesis one day will brutally punish them all involved for crimes against humanity… Will Putin dares to use an atomic weapon, it remains to be seen… Never forget Putin’s rationality… Watch this space…

More on Ukraine tomorrow… Pity…

Covid, long Covid is here to stay… Omicron “thrives” in Hong Kong; watch it… we have a long way to go. Vaccinate, Vaccinate, Vaccinate AND wait for manna …err for the traditional Vaccine from Heavens….

Have a nice evening but continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.  Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. As for the mess in Ukraine, you have not seen anything yet as well as its spread… Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let us work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red over US$ 350 (three hundredandfifty) trillion…
