Markets “bounce” back with the BDI at 1,816; Wets too being also slightly “buoyant”. What a week that was with Geopolitics completely derailed…
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) was up since yesterday 96 points and 263 since last week (16/09) conquering.the 1,600 to 1,800 points threshold conquered and approaching the 2,000-point mark will be once again manna from heaven… Wets too with prospects… Geopolitics derailed with the Ukrainian mess going worse, Turkiye just about to rock Peace in 1,000 miles around its frontiers region, Italy having a crucial election and many more global issues at stake… and the Queen’s funeral unites more than ever the United Kingdom. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recaps:
The Capes’ BCI resurge is as always volatile and it remains to be seen how uncertainty and volatility will continue to affect this size given also restrictions – applying to all ships due to the Ukrainian mess… On a daily basis, the BCI was up 277 points standing now at 2,206 and on a weekly basis; same was up 687 – from 1,519 on 16/09 surpassing the 1,600 to 2,200 points threshold…
The Panamaxes’ BPI was down three points at 1,995 and on a weekly basis just five points up – from 1990 last week…Mind me it was more than noticeable the loss of the 2,000 point-threshold on Thursday 22 Sept. 2022 from 2,021…
A minor …surge for the Supras’ BSI at 1,652 – up 15 since yesterday and weekly one at 101 points plus from 1,551 surpassing the 1,600 point threshold…
Still an admirable effort by the Handies’ BHSI to remain in the picture; the 996 points, plus 14 since yesterday and the 61 since last week (905 on 16/09) counts a lot.
Wonder how owners will tackle volatility and geopolitics on this strange market…
The enigmatic Wets remain a bit buoyant… the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 1,498 – plus one and 1,242 – plus 14 points respectively. A bit of an “odd” situ with respect the weekly score; the Dirties where up six points – from 1,492 and the Cleans down 13 – from 1,255…
The Energy issues coupled with Geopolitics will continue to affect the Wets… Brace..
The WTI fell down to US$ 78.74 – minus US$ 4.75 and on a weekly basis the fall was US$ 6.37 – from US$ 85.11 on 16/09. Once again, these are still pathetic levels and we need to see per mare per terra the US$ 49.99 mark for survival… Watch this space!
Recession is here to stay and in tandem with Inflation will create an explosive cocktail so to speak and wonder how Governments can contain the upcoming social upturns as demos begin… Energy might cause unimaginable tsunamis too. As we have stressed in our lectures in Universities and forums we lack leaders; any objection???
The Euro slides dangerously and the USDollar takes off… CAUTION
The Ukrainian issue’s projections and future, will not surprise us, it will surprise you all for what is yet to come! Stop being naïve in Brussels and Washington and let’s end this mess victoriously here on now and avoid any further wrong German calculations on being depended on Russian energy and other issues; enough!!!
Turkiye, as we have continuously stress, will attempt, backed by devils and wolves, to rock Peace in a 1,000 miles around Turkiye’s borders region – even more. Again, Brussels and Washington MUST get their act together. CAUTION!
The UN Assembly in New York is giving us a taste of what to expect soon in all fronts; brace!
The United Kingdom is at the crossroads but Liz Truss will do her best and we hope she will be successful… The Labour Party Conference in Liverpool will also try to re-establish a green image but the timing is wrong as other priorities matter most…
Italy’s election will shake up Italy itself and indeed Europe as the right-wing forces resurface…
China and Taiwan will be in the eye of the storm…
On another note and tone:
The 13th Hydra Shipping Forum titled “Are we experiencing the other side of midnight” was more than a success…
The International Propeller Club of the United States 96th Annual Convention and Conference 20-22 September in Athens’ Grand Hyatt was unique in its entirety and you can read many of its deliberation here in this site. A well chosen motto “We are Together”, Together in Shipping, Together for the Future played a pivotal role getting same across the waves!
Chios’ 21st NAVIGATOR 2022 – THE SHIPPING DECISION MAKERS FORUM kick started from Oinousses and already looks more promising; see and read relevant write-ups…
Coming up:
HESGB’s Autumn drinks and dips on Wednesday 28th September 17:30 at Doggett’s Coat & Badge is not to be missed
World Maritime Day at the IMO on the 29th of September promises a great networking event.
The Queen’s funeral last Monday the 19th of September 2022 will be remembered by all all over Planet Ocean. A more than united United Kingdom looks for a brighter future.
Have a nice evening and weekend but continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean. Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. As for the mess in Ukraine, we repeat: you have not seen anything yet as well as its spread…
Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let us work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is now over the US$ 400 (four hundred) trillion debt mark.
