On 28 February 2023 the M/V Leonidas (IMO: 9696474), managed by Laskaridis Shipping Co. Ltd., while proceeding to the Port of Veracruz, Mexico, received a mayday call from the fishing boat “Benjamin” by VHF. The 3 fishermen onboard notified the crew of M/V Leonidas that they sailed from Yukatan and had been drifting for 25 days since their vessel had a broken propeller and was immobilized and have been unable to contact authorities. Their health was in good condition. MV Leonidas changed course and proceeded to the fishing boat. After less than an hour, the fishing boat “Benjamin” moored to the port side of MV LEONIDAS. The crew of M/V Leonidas provided the fishermen with fresh water, food, and medical assistance as necessary. M/V Leonidas will take the three men to the Port of Veracruz and will continue its operations.
