I recently read on the Women’s Mentoring Foundation website that being a woman today means: “Celebrating who we are; it means seeing how strong we are. It means speaking up to continually make life better for the next generation of women.”
I could not agree more. Today should be a day for us WOMEN to focus on our obligation to raise the next generation with these values. To contribute to minimizing injustice, to stand up for the rights of women without a voice, and to help other women.
Because there is a lot of work still to be done to lift women up. Especially when we look around the world, in many places the fight is still ongoing for basic human rights like self-determination, freedom, education, health, and work.
When I look at shipping, I feel as women we have the power to make a difference, because we are an industry that connects the world. We can show that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just words. And we can do this on the global stage.
It is also a philosophy that I am proud to say, I believe my company DNV truly embodies. We are striving to live to these values, and are a forerunner in the field.
But we all need to continue to speak, to make ourselves heard, work for change, and lift up the next generation.
