73 year-old Jean-Marie Van Butsele, a retired policeman, was welcomed to Monaco by Princess Caroline after walking 1,250 kilometres from his home in Brabant, Belgium, to rase funds for the charity Jeune J’écoute, of which the Princess is honorary president. He left on February 11 and raised 20,000 euros.

Following the passing of the law yesterday – without a vote – to raise the French retirement age by 2 years, riots broke out in Paris and 73 people had been arrested by 21:00 last night. Labour protests are due to continue and Thursday, March 23, will be the next day of coordinated strike action.
