The AHL announces that the winner of the Anglo-Hellenic League Runciman Award 2023 is A.E. Stallings for This Afterlife: Selected Poems (Manchester: Carcanet 2022).

The announcement of the winner of the Anglo-Hellenic League Runciman Award 2023 was made on Monday 19 June, 7pm at King’s College London, which co-hosted the event with the Anglo-Hellenic League. Prof. Dame Mary Beard (University of Cambridge) gave the keynote address on ‘How do we best argue for Classics?’. Prof. Peter Frankopan reviewed the longlisted and shortlisted books on behalf of the panel of judges and announced the winner. The winner presented her book with a short talk and readings. Addresses were also given by Prof. Marion Thain (KCL), Dr John Kittmer (the League) and Prof. Gonda Van Steen (KCL).

The Anglo-Hellenic League Runciman Award is sponsored by the A. C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation and the A. G. Leventis Foundation.

The 70th annual King’s College London Greek Play, Iphigeneia, will run from Wednesday 28 June to Friday 30 June. There will be performances on each day at 7pm and matinees at 2.30 on 28 and 29 June.

Iphigeneia is a modern take on Euripides’ Iphigeneia and the play is, as usual, a student production, assisted this year by The Actors of Dionysus (celebrating their 30th year). There will be lectures by distinguished classicists before the evening performances at 6pm.
