On Saturday the 23rd of September, the new Blue MBA cohort – 50 participants from 25 countries (Fab-50), concluded their first module.

The module introduced the business of shipping and the economics of shipping markets and described the working of the various shipping markets such as the freight market, the newbuilding market, the demolition market and the sale and purchase market, as well as other essential areas of maritime activity such as chartering and shipbroking and also focused on these perspectives in the dry bulk and tanker industries. The topic of digitalization and decarbonization was also covered.  By combining reference to historical shipping-related events with analysis of contemporary issues, the course provides the opportunity to envisage the factors shaping the future of the shipping industry.  The last two days of the module was devoted to the leadership programme where our participants were given insight into the history of leadership theory, how to lead in today’s society, leadership as an interactional discipline, the complexity of leadership and its challenges.

“The Fab-50, representing all the different segments of the maritime industry, created an extremely dynamic environment which enhanced the learning experience, moving the focus from teaching to learning.” Irene Rosberg, Programme Director The Blue MBA
