In association with our friends at ship, energy, we are running the third annual Container Shipping Decarbonisation Survey to assess attitudes to decarbonisation and alternative fuel preferences.
Liner companies have been early adopters of low emission fuels, aided by a business model which allows them to predict with some accuracy their fuel requirements by fuel type, stem size and location.
The multibillion dollar profits bonanza which came with a 1 Mn TEU per month increase in demand during the pandemic helped too, giving liners the money to engage in a massive programme of fleet renewal and expansion, with as many as two thirds of newbuildings being specified with low emission fuel technology.
These changes have led to greater acceptance of methanol, fuel cells, wind assistnace, and an increasing awareness of the potential of ammonia and electrical storage systems. You can read about how previous two surveys have picked up on that trend here.
Please help us by taking one minute to respond to our eleven question survey. Results will be published at the end of this month.
Many thanks!
