
Venice, 13 November – Venice is the port city chosen to host the annual summit of AIVP (Association Internationale Villes et Ports), the association established over 30 years ago to study the challenges and opportunities of maritime cities and promote a constructive dialogue between port and city stakeholders aimed at fostering sustainable port-city development.
AIVP Venice 2023 will be held on 16 and 17 November at the Arsenale and will involve over 300 participants including representatives of institutions, companies and industry experts in a series of round tables and workshops that will bring out international best practices in the field of cultural heritage protection and sustainability. It will not be open to the public.
The decision to choose Venice as the venue for the summit was taken unanimously by the Board of the Association led by President and former French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe. As a member of the AIVP since 2016 and of AIVP’s Board of Directors since 2017, the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority – Ports of Venice and Chioggia (AdSPMAS ) is co-organizing the Venice event. Indeed, the President of the Port Authority Mr Fulvio Lino Di Blasio will open the meeting with a welcome address on Thursday 16 November at 9:00 a.m.
On the same day, at 2:00 p.m., he will participate in the high level panel entitled “Envisioning the port city of the future” chaired by OECD representative Mrs Oriana Romano (Head of Unit, Water Governance, Blue and Circular Economy, of the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities). The session will bring together the President of ESPO and of the North Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority – Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone Mr Zeno D’Agostino, the Mayor of Le Havre and President of AIVP Mr Edouard Philippe and the Head of the Action Platform for Ocean – UN Global Compact Mr Erik Giercksky. Italy’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Mr Edoardo Rixi will deliver a keynote speech.
On Friday 17 November at 9:15 a.m., President Di Blasio will talk with representatives of the Port Authorities of Barcelona and Jamaica during the round table entitled “The next step for sustainable cruises”.
